Hi, I’m Candice!
I am so glad you made it here! I’d like to introduce myself. Hi, I’m Candice. I’m first and foremost, a daughter of our gracious Jesus…. without him, who knows where or who I would be! I am a wife, to my hilarious husband and bestie, and mom to our two perfect boys who are growing so fast! Every word of the quote “the days are long but the years are short” is SO TRUE. Don’t blink! Okay, you can take a nap tho… it will be FINE! (If you hear Ross’ voice, we are instant F.R.I.E.N.D.S)!
Where to start? I guess you could say I am a “forever” student. I love to learn! I am an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, with over a decade of my life spent working in the pediatric world.
How in the world did I become a birth doula you might wonder? Well, right after my husband and I moved to the Charlotte area, I became pregnant with our first son. Seeing as we had just moved I was taking a pause as a practitioner and just enjoying my pregnancy. Hubby said I should- so you bet I did! I began to explore the birthing world and what I wanted for my own birthing and BOY was I in for a treat. To sum it up in the short version, stepping out of the medical field really allowed me to see it. The utter lack of support and trust in a woman’s ability to do what GOD made her to do was truly shocking to me.
I dove headfirst into all the things I needed to do to prepare for my own natural, unmedicated birthing! I hired myself a doula, started seeing a webster-certified chiropractor and changed providers so quick, I could make your head spin. By the way…. I did have just that- an easy, pain-free, natural, unmedicated birthing….despite being laughed at for wanting this, I might add. (True story).
Through all this, I fell SO in love with all things birthing. It is such an amazing experience! Women are the COOLEST. Our bodies are so incredible and we shouldn’t have to fight to have the birth we want. An hour or so after my son was born, I had a conversation with my own doula, telling her I had been thinking about becoming a birth doula pretty much my whole pregnancy. I hadn’t vocalized it up until then, to anyone other than my husband! Of course her likeminded spirit said DO IT! After some prayer, I did it and I’m so glad I did!
My hope and prayer through all of this is that I am able to help as many women as I can, have the birthing they envision for themselves.
Remember…. You can do this. You were made for this. Birthing is not scary and dangerous… it is natural and normal! As your birth doula, I am here to love on you, support you, advocate for you, pray with you, whatever you need. I know your partner is probably like, what the heck is a doula- I know my husband said those exact words to me… just know, I am here for them too!
If you are curious to know more, let’s connect and see if we are a good match for your birthing space! Look forward to chatting all things birthing!
